  • Is there a ski resort in Matrei in East Tyrol?

    The valley station of the Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei is just 900 metres from the hotel. The free ski bus stops at the hotel and takes you to the valley station in just a few minutes.

  • How many lifts and slopes are there at the Großglockner Resort ski area?

    The ski resort has 16 modern lifts, which can carry more than 24,000 people per hour and reach altitudes of over 2,400 metres. This means queuing times are virtually non-existent. More than 47 kilometres of ski runs are then at your disposal for your skiing enjoyment.

  • How reliable is the snow cover at the ski resort?

    100% of the slopes can be covered with artificial snow, and there are even three snow-covered valley runs, ensuring reliable snow cover throughout the winter.

  • Is there a free ski bus?

    Yes – a free ski bus stops right next to the hotel and runs at regular intervals to the valley station of the Großglockner Resort (900 m away).

  • Where can I store my sports kit?

    At our base camp (ski room), every room has its own lockable locker for ski equipment – including a drying system for boots.

  • Are there any guided snowshoe walks or winter walks?

    Yes, as an official hiking hotel, we offer 2–3 guided snowshoe walks or winter walks per week free of charge. You can also take part in a National Park ranger tour free of charge during your stay.

  • Are there any opportunities for ski touring?

    East Tyrol is regarded as one of the best ski touring areas in the Alps, with 268 peaks over 3,000 metres and unspoilt deep-snow slopes.

    Yes, the Eispark Osttirol at the Matreier Tauernhaus. It is Austria’s largest artificial ice-climbing centre, with over 50 routes (WI2–WI6, M4–M8).

    Yes – an extensive network of winter walking trails in the Matreier Tauernhaus and the surrounding valleys.
